Huichol Bead Art

The Huichol Indians are an indigenous tribe that live in remote regions of the Sierra Madre mountains in the states of Nayarit and Jalisco, Mexico. They are descended from the Aztec Indians and were among the last tribes to come under Spanish rule.

The Huichol are well known for their colorful bead work and other artforms which are their primary source of income. Each figurine is hand-carved and covered with beeswax. Then tiny glass beads are meticulously hand placed to create a beautiful work of art. Vibrant colorful patterns are created according to the artist's inspiration and no two pieces are identical.

The Huichol people are very proud of the artwork which enables them to express their culture and traditions in intricate detail. We hope you enjoy this uniquely original hand made work of art from the Huichol Indians.
